Welcome to Genetics in Family Medicine online

This website was created to provide GPs online access to the resource, Genetics in Family Medicine: the Australian Handbook for General Practitioners.

Rapid advances in the field of genetics is leading to an ever expanding pool of knowledge and also an increasing array of genetics tests. There is a growing challenge for GPs to increase their knowledge about genetic conditions and to identify patients whose symptoms, physical findings, or family history indicate the need for genetic testing. GPs have the opportunity to use genetic information to improve disease prevention.

This resource has been developed to support GPs in managing the growing impact of genetic medicine on primary care, to further the knowledge and skills in evaluating family history and in recognising clinical findings that indicate genetic risk.
